This may or may not seem silly, but i had a crash during a long render
one night, and also only use one meg of chip, however, after seeing it
happen again at the same spot I traced it to the screen blanker that
comes on after a long time.  needing just enough chip, to crash the whole
thing.  Might want to be sure and kill as many other tasks as you can and
try again.
